Cregal Art Ltd. offers a one-on-one picture framing course, ideal for anyone intending to open a picture framing business. The course is taught by a dedicated staff of six Guild Commended Framers (Fine Art Trade Guild). As the course is taught on a one-to-one basis, it can be tailored to each individual student, depending on their speed of progress and their particular areas of interest.
The following is a typical itinerary of a student taking part in the course:
Day 1:
Induction into the workshop, which includes an overview of the different equipment used. There is also an in-depth study into the cutting and joining of frames.
Day 2:
Cutting of glass and backs, as well as a revision of the previous day’s work.
Day 3:
“Finishing off” different types of artwork i.e. cleaning glass and fixing in artwork. The stretching of silk painting, canvases and fabrics.
Day 4:
Cutting single, double and multi-window mounts. The gluing down of canvases and sticking of prints onto self-adhesive board. Studying the pricing structure of picture framing, including the costs, profit margin and recommended retail price.
Day 5:
Studying colour co-ordination and choosing the most suitable frame and mounts for the particular artwork. Overview of conservation framing including mounting, glazing and final assembly to conservation standards.
